Food safety recall round-up 29 September - 5 October 2017
bonduelle spinach
Italy: Bonduelle Italia has recalled spinach linked to a foodborne outbreak.
The suspected outbreak (anticholinergic syndrome) is caused by mandrake in frozen spinach packed for Bonduelle by Gelagri Iberica in Spain.
Mandrake or Mandragora root is considered toxic as the plant contains alkaloids.
Spinaci Millefoglie 750g for retail and Spinaci Placca 1/5 2.5kg frozen for food service have been recalled.
Spinaci Millefoglie dated 08/2019 with lot numbers 15986504, 15986506, 15995174 and 16008520 are involved.
Bonduelle said although the presence of mandrake in the product has not been confirmed the firm decided to make the recall.
- UPDATE 16-10-17: Further testing gave the Bonduelle product the all-clear.
