Food safety recall round-up 26 May - 1 June 2017
Listeria in nuts
US: Hampton Farms is recalling Ava's brand Organic Cashews Roasted & Salted 8 oz. tubs due to potential Listeria monocytogenes.
Routine sampling of a different item from another company revealed positive L. monocytogenes results and an investigation revealed a contaminated piece of equipment that was also used to produce the ingredient Hampton Farms received.
Although test results of cashews from its supplier were negative for Listeria the product was recalled.
No confirmed illnesses have been reported in the items distributed in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Connecticut.
Fewer than 225 units of the product with Best By 4/28/18 and Lot 11817-L2 were offered for retail sale.
"We deeply regret this situation and have employed our established recall plan to immediately remove the product from distribution," said Dallas Barnes, president of Hampton Farms.
Previously, the Kroger Co. recalled Simple Truth Dry Roasted Macadamia Nuts due to potential L. monocytogenes.
It was informed by a supplier that the product may have the potential to be contaminated.
It comes in a 12 ounce, clear plastic package with expiration date May 2, 2018.
Kroger, Bakers, Gerbes and Dillons stores in Ohio, Southeast Indiana, Northern Kentucky, Kansas, Nebraska and Missouri are included in the recall.
