Food safety recall round-up 8-18 May 2017
Lupin risk for peanut allergic consumers
Canada: Loblaw Companies has recalled PC Blue Menu brand Buttermilk Protein Pancake Mix and Apple Cinnamon Flavour Protein Pancake Mix following allergic reactions from consumers.
The 340g products contain lupin pulse flour as an ingredient which was identified on the label but could cause a potential reaction in consumers with peanut allergies.
Two SKUs of the pancake mix were sold in stores between 1 February and 5 May.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Health Canada are preparing information on potential risk of lupin for peanut allergic consumers.
Lupin is a legume belonging to the same plant family as peanuts. It is not one of the priority allergens in Canada and does not require an additional precautionary label on packaging.
