GM papaya found in Norway
Norway: Mattilsynet has found illegally genetically modified papaya from Thailand.
The importer has received a ban on selling all fresh papaya from the same supplier until they can demonstrate they are 'NON GMO', as stated on the labeling.
Mattilsynet has not seen evidence to suggest it causes health hazards to eat papaya from Thailand.
Papaya is genetically modified so that it is resistant to a virus that can give large yield losses.
'Green papaya' and 'NON GMO Thai original native green papaya' is imported by Orient Deli AS in Oslo and distributed to 15 stores across the country.
The product is exported by Chatchawan Import Export & Packaging and imported by OrientDeli AS in Oslo.
