Food safety recall round-up 24-30 March 2017
Metal in RTE chicken prompts complaints
USA: OK Food Inc. is recalling more than 930,000 pounds of breaded chicken that may be contaminated with metal.
Ready-to-eat (RTE) breaded chicken items were produced on various dates from December 19, 2016 to March 7 and shipped to retail and institutions nationwide, said the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA-FSIS).
The problem was discovered after OK Foods received five consumer complaints that metal objects were found in the RTE chicken products.
The firm identified affected product and determined the objects in the complaints came from metal conveyor belting.
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to the products.
