It is funding research at Cornell University and the University of Georgia to better understand prevalence and concentration in frozen food manufacturing environments and products.
The results will develop effective environmental monitoring and sampling strategies.
AFFI is also working on a guidance document to assist members in controlling Lm in frozen food manufacturing facilities.
The Board of Directors and staff are developing a three to five-year strategic plan to guide use of AFFI resources against food safety and other initiatives.
The full plan will be shared during the AFFI Annual Meeting and Keynote Breakfast at AFFI-CON 2017 in San Diego in March.
AFFI-CON brings together processors, logistics providers, suppliers, retailers and foodservice distributors and operators from the frozen food and beverage industry.
AFFI is also supporting the Partnership for Food Safety Education (PFSE) on ‘The Story of Your Dinner’ campaign.
The purpose is to raise consumer awareness about actions to reduce the risk of foodborne illness.
AFFI and PFSE are reminding consumers to always read and follow package cooking instructions on frozen foods.
