Axiom Foods: You get what you pay for…
Plant-based protein expert Axiom Foods, meanwhile, urged manufacturers to be wary of suspiciously cheap pea protein products claiming to be certified organic; products contaminated with soy or gluten; plus quality issues arising from the fat content in some cheaper protein powders.
While Axiom manufactures its non-GMO pea protein in China (which has a ready market for pea starch – for glass noodles), it sources its peas from the US. It also has certified organic options and has recently secured no objections letters from the FDA for its brown rice protein and its yellow pea proteins.
Demand is high across multiple application areas from meal replacements to protein powders and nutrition bars, said the firm, which offers plant-based proteins from soy, pea, oats, and sacha inchi seeds (which are native to Peru and like hemp seeds, also contain short-chain omega-3 fatty acids).
