Food safety recall round-up May 12-19 2016
Histamine levels in fish
Canada: Sea Delight Canada SLU is recalling Sea Delight brand Tuna Steaks due to elevated levels of histamine.
The recall was triggered by a consumer complaint. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is investigating and will provide an update if other products are recalled.
The 340g tuna steaks have lot code 500541 and UPC 8 436544 901664.
Histamines are not destroyed by cooking. High levels in fish can cause an allergic-type reaction known as scombroid poisoning. Symptoms can include burning throat, diarrhea, dizziness, facial swelling, headache, vomiting and peppery taste in mouth.
