Food safety recall round-up April 20-28 2016
Pilgrim’s Pride recalls 4.5m pounds of chicken
USA: Pilgrim’s Pride Corp. has recalled more than 4.5m pounds of fully cooked chicken products due to possible contamination with plastic, wood, rubber and metal.
Chicken was produced on various dates between August 21, 2014, to March 1 this year, said the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA-FSIS).
It was shipped for institutional use nationwide and, according to company records, schools purchased products through commercial channels. For a list of affected items see here.
The problem was discovered after the firm received consumer complaints regarding plastic contamination of chicken nuggets.
The firm told FSIS personnel on April 6 who identified more affected products and production dates after investigating additional consumer complaints of foreign material contamination received by the firm.
However, there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions.
