VUV Analytics to explore new applications for gas chromatography detector

VUV Analytics has announced a collaboration to explore new applications using the VGA-100 Vacuum Ultraviolet (VUV) gas chromatography detector.

The project is with Caltech Environmental Analysis Center (EAC).

VUV Analytics said the instrument excels in applications where mass spectrometry performance has been limited.

The detector was applied to fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) analysis in a study in Food Chemistry​.

Sean Jameson, VP of business development at VUV Analytics, said it believes academia provides the best opportunity to bring new technology to the scientific community. 

"We are thrilled to be collaborating with Caltech Environmental Analysis Center to further the application potential of the VGA-100. Dr Dalleska's laboratory will be pioneering unexplored territory in environmental analysis."     

The Caltech EAC is an open-access, user-operated laboratory with a focus on research and analytical methods using mass spectrometry, gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, ion chromatography and capillary electrophoresis.

Dr Nathan Dalleska said: “Our research will be focused on applying novel VUV absorption spectroscopy methods to identifying compounds and classes of compounds with much greater levels of sensitivity and selectivity compared to other analytical approaches."
