January: EFSA says BPA poses no risk
In January the long awaited verdict on Bisphenol A (BPA) came from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).
The EFSA Panel on Food Contact Materials, Enzymes, Flavourings and Processing Aids (CEF) said it posed no risk to consumers of any age group at levels they are exposed to.
It prompted quite a reaction - some for and some against the opinion.
However, if anyone thought that would be the end of the story (really?!) they were wrong. It has been ongoing throughout the year with the most recent developing being the European Commission looking at options to legislate the chemical in packaging - so stay tuned for most stories in 2016.
Also worth noting while on this subject is the French ban and the back and forth that has played out this year.
