Aus and NZ undeclared milk allergen issue grows
October - Australia and New Zealand: Yuen's Market Trading Co has recalled Chaokoh Young Coconut Juice with Jelly due to the presence of an undeclared allergen (dairy).
The coconut drink from Thailand comes in a 350ml blue can and was sold in Asian grocery stores in Queensland. All best before dates in the marketplace are involved.
Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) in New Zealand has extended its warning on imported coconut milk products and coconut milk powder as these allergens are not declared on the label.
There have been two reported cases in Australia of severe allergic (anaphylactic) reactions associated with coconut milk drinks but none in New Zealand.
Greentime brand Coconut Milk Drink, 500ml can, manufactured in Taiwan, Coco Joy brand Pure Coconut Milk, (Banana, Chocolate, Coffee flavours) 500ml bottle from Vietnam, V Fresh brand Coconut Milk Drink, 240ml can from Thailand, Orthodox Coconut Palm brand, Coconut Palm Coconut Juice, 245ml can, 245ml Tetra-pak, 1000ml (1 litre) Tetra-pak, manufactured in China are involved.
As are Emma brand Instant Coconut milk powder, 50g plastic foil single serve pack and 1kg bulk packet from Malaysia, Yeniu brand Coconut Juice, 1.25kg bottle from China, Wahaha brand Coconut Juice, 245g can from China, Sasaya brand Coconut Drink, 335ml can from Taiwan and Ayers Rock Instant Coconut Milk Powder, 300g cardboard box and 1 kg foil bag manufactured in Malaysia.
