Integrating nanomaterial in the entire value chain creates challenges and requires different approaches, according to the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR).

BfR will tackle these issues during the first joint symposium on nanotechnology, held with the Fraunhofer “Food Chain Management” Alliance and the Fraunhofer Alliance “Nanotechnology”.

The status quo in application, research, and regulation as well as the characterisation, toxicology of nanomaterials and the societal acceptance of nanotechnology will be discussed at the two day event.

Speakers come from the BfR, ANSES, JRC, EFSA and different Fraunhofer institutes.

Presentation topics include regulation of nanomaterials and release of nanoparticles in consumer products, migration of nanomaterials in food contact plastics and EFSA guidance on nanomaterials.

The event on 5-6 March is open to the public and free of charge but registration is necessary by 15 February.
