Food Standards Scotland jumps final hurdle

Food Standards Scotland (FSS) will start on April 1 after becoming a legal entity as the bill received Royal Assent.
It will take on all functions currently performed by the Scottish division of the UK-wide Food Standards Agency.
The agency’s areas of interest will include diet and nutritional health and regulating food safety.
The bill builds on an agreement in June 2012 to create a new food safety agency in the country .
Ross Finnie will be chair of the agency and Geoff Ogle was named as chief executive.
FSS will have a budget of around £20m per year and employ 90 HQ staff in Aberdeen and 70 in the field.
