Pesticide levels too high in green tea
June - Czech Rep: The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) suspended a consignment of Vietnamese green tea totalling 236kg earlier this month.
Out of eight sorts of tea, four samples were taken and out of this three were assessed as non-compliant as regards the content of pesticides, said the agency working with the Customs Office of the Capital City of Prague.
One non-compliant sample included Meng Ding Mao in the amount of 28kg because the amount of pesticide chlorpyrifos present was 0.25 mg/kg and the permitted limit is 0.1 mg/kg.
Another finding was 33kg of Formosa Oolong containing 0.44 mg/kg of buprofezin and 0.25 mg/kg of imidacloprid, when the limit for both substances is 0.5 mg/kg.
Xin Rong International ordered the consignment and Shenzhen Rui Xin Shunda Import Export Co., was identified as the importer.
