The significant rise has been put down to increased production volumes at its Vinnytsia poultry farm during 2013. MHP has been working on an expansion project at the farm, which is due to reach full capacity towards the year-end.
Within its poultry business, sales volumes of chicken meat to third parties increased by 22% to 112,270t in the first quarter of 2014, from 91,720 tonnes (t) in Q1 2013.
Domestic sales volume rose by 20%, while export sales were up 31% to 30,370t, as the company looked to increase its sales abroad. The rise was seen despite decreased exports to the Customs Union, following Russia’s ban on chicken meat from Ukraine and other countries in February, due to the outbreak of African swine fever in neighbouring countries.
Sales to the Middle East, Asia, Africa, the EU and some CIS countries increased over the period, "diversifying export markets", said the firm.
The average price of chicken meat remained level with prices in Q4 2013, but were down 4% on the same period last year - this was mainly due to lower export prices year on year.
In its meat processing operations, volume sales of sausage and cooked meat fell from 7,340t in Q1 2013, to 6,856t in the first three months of this year – down 7% year-on-year. However the average price increased by 7% as a result of a refocus on higher-margin products.
