K-fat Inc. issues alert on undeclared sulfites
3 February - USA: K-Fat Inc. is recalling KFI Sweetened Ginger Candy because they contain undeclared sulfites which could lead to people having allergic reactions.
The recalled K-Fat Inc comes in a 8.8oz (250g) clear, plastic container with no code: The UPC code is 8935001201304. The product was sold in New York City and New Jersey area and is a product of Vietnam.
It was recalled after sampling by NYS department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors and subsequent analysis of the product by Food Laboratory personnel revealed the presence of sulfites in packages of KFI SWEETENED GINGER CANDY which did not declare sulfites on the label.
Consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions in some asthmatics.
