The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has made a second recall on beef contaminated with possible E. coli.

The uncooked lean ground beef from Belmont Meats in Toronto was sold in 1.6kg packs divided into four 400g segments, with best before dates of June 1, 2014.

The product was sold at Loblaw stores, including Superstore, Zehrs Markets, Your Independent Grocer, Extra Foods, Forginos, Freshmart and Cash&Carry.

The CFIA said no illnesses have been reported and the recall comes as part of an ongoing investigation into food safety.

The first incident, announced on October 8, was Belmont Meats Compliments brand Super 8 Beef Burgers because they may have contaminated E. coli O157:H7.

The product was distributed in Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador in Sobeys banner stores, which might include Sobeys, Foodland, FreshCo, and Price Chopper.

Frozen Super 8 Beef Burgers 6 x 227g / 1.36kg are affected with a UPC of 055742370553.
