Infant formula recalled due to Clostridium botulinum in whey protein
5 August - New Zealand: Nutricia is recalling all batches of Karicare infant formula due to the whey protein concentrate used as an ingredient being contaminated with Clostridium botulinum bacteria.
Nutricia NZ Ltd Karicare Infant Formula Stage 1 (0-6 months) 900g / 29.6g sachets and Karicare Gold+ Stage 2 Follow On Formula (6-12 months) 900g / 32.8g stick (4 Pack) are affected.
The products have been available for sale throughout New Zealand in all major supermarkets and retailers including pharmacies and direct sales from web sites.
The recall is part of a bigger scandal involving dairy-giant Fonterra.
