Horse meat adulteration gallops on
Horse meat has been found in products from Malta, Greece, Latvia, Czech Republic and Poland as the adulteration issue continues.
Meat affected includes presence of horse DNA in 1-5% in breakfast sausages from Malta, cooked sausage with beef meat ranging from 3-7% in Greece and residues of phenylbutazone of 0.96µg/kg -ppb.
Latvian beef stewed was found with 87% horse DNA with raw materials from Poland and distribution to Lithuania and Germany and >1% was found in frozen diced beef steak from the UK distributed to Czech Republic, Ireland and Spain, according to updates provided by the European Union's RASFF portal.
