CFIA warning over fish contaminated with Clostridium botulinum
April 13 - Canada: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning the public not to consume certain smoked fish products sold in Toronto because they may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum.
Toxins produced by these bacteria may cause botulism, a life-threatening illness but there have been no reported illnesses associated with the products so far.
The products have no label or UPC code, with the product name handwritten on the package and have been sold from Hooked stores.
The affected products are Cold Smoked Steelhead (may also be written as Cold Smoked Salmon or Cold Smoked Sockeye) with a code on the product written as A25 (or A-25; 04 25; 04/25; Apr 25; Apr 25, 2013; Apr 25/2013).
