New animal welfare head promises sustained pressure
The new president of the European animal welfare charity, Eurogroup for Animals, has vowed to keep up the pressure on MEPS to ensure that animal welfare remains high on the agenda, claiming there are there are “many issues that can only be solved on the EU stage”.
Major general Peter Davies, who was elected as new president of Eurogroup for Animals last week, joins the European charity from the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA), where he was director general. He was previously the director general of the UK’s Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA), following a career in the British army.
He said: “MEPs may expect to be approached from all corners by Eurogroup, by the Eurogroup staff for the provision of information and expertise and by Eurogroup’s national and international members who speak for millions of animal welfare supporters across the globe; I will coordinate and lead this operation.”
