Chinese police seize cancer causing fake beer
4 July – Chinese police seized 18,000 cases of fake beer made using cancer-causing industrial chemicals, according to reports from the country.
A gang is alleged to have added hydrochloric acid and formaldehyde to 13 counterfeit brands of beer, including Tsingtao, before selling it in several provinces of the country.
The six people arrested in North China allegedly earned more than $2m through the illegal manufacture and sale of fake beer.
