New Yorkers warned about tainted cheese following recall
2 July – New York State Agriculture Commissioner Darrel Aubertine has warned consumers not to consume certain cheese products manufactured by Mexicali Cheese over Listeria monocytogenes contamination concerns.
The manufacturer initiated a recall of the product after a routine sampling of the cheese found the pathogen.
An initial 29 July warning relating to the firm’s Queso Fresco cheese was extended to include another three cheese products manufactured by Mexicali, including Acatlan Queso Fresco, Mi Quesito Mexicano, Quesillo Ecuatoriano.
“To date, no illnesses are known by the Department to be associated with this product,” said the notice, which was posted on the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website.
