Ukrainian meat and poultry firm reports solid results

Ukrainian meat and poultry producer MHP has reported fairly stable performance in the first quarter of 2012.

In the three months ending 31 March 2012, sales of chicken meat increased by 1% compared to the same period last year, reaching 85,040 tonnes (t). Average prices increased by 31% year-on-year to UAH16.75 per kg of adjusted weight (excluding VAT), reaching the same level as seen in Q4 2011.

The company reported strong domestic demand for chicken, as well as increasing demand from export markets. Exported chicken meat sales in Q1 reached almost 10,000t, which is a 70% increase on the same period in 2011.

Sausage and cooked meat production volumes decreased by 5% to 7,500t year-on-year as a result of product mix optimisation, the company added. Average sausage and cooked meat prices increased by 18% to UAH21.53 per kg (excluding VAT).
