SGS announced it has gained access to the tightly regulated Italian health and safety (H&S) sector with the acquisition of Sertec S.r.l.

Livorno-based Sertec is one of Italy’s largest H&S providers and generated almost €7m in revenues last year, said SGS. It runs a laboratory and employs 85 workers.

"Italy is a key market for us," said Chris Kirk, CEO of SGS. "I am pleased to grow our foot print in this market.”

The Italian firm primarily focuses on H&S statutory services and training in chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical and mechanical industries – including food analysis, calibration and consultancy services in environmental and goods manufacturing practice (GMP) for the chemicals and pharmaceutical industries.

“This new acquisition gives SGS access into the highly regulated H&S Italian market, strengthens SGS Industrial Services and expands its service offerings in Oil, Gas and Chemicals, as well as in Life Science Services”, said a company statement.
