UK-based Rectory Foods has opened a new facility in Lithuania to source, store and distribute meat and other ingredients to Baltic countries.

Rectory Foods, which has recently expanded its ingredient offering from just meat into garlic, seeds and vegetable products, has been carrying out research and preparatory work towards opening the new facility for the last 2 years. It says the division, called UAB Baltreka, complies with British Retail Consortium standards.

Around 10 per cent of Rectory’s sales are said to come from Eastern Europe, which has become increasingly important for the business since 2003. UAB Baltreka exports to the UK, Scandinavia, Germany, Holland, Austria and China, works with poultry, pork and beef suppliers in Lithuania, Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Latvia and Poland and also sources product in the UK, Scandinavia, Germany, India and China.
