Out of the pan...
manufacturers and food retailers about whether their food products
may contain ingredients supplied by Australian's largest contract
manufacturer of complementary medicines Pan Pharmaceuticals.
Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has contacted food manufacturers and food retailers about whether their food products may contain ingredients supplied by Australian's largest contract manufacturer of complementary medicines Pan Pharmaceuticals.
The move follows hot on the heels of the six month suspension last week of the licence held by Pan Pharmaceuticals after inspectors from the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) found a series of serious safety and quality breaches by the company - including the substitution of ingredients, manipulation of test results and substandard manufacturing processes.
According to FSANZ, as of last Wednesday the major food manufacturers had informed the FSANZ that they have not sourced ingredients from Pan. However, the government body stressed that should any products be subsequently identified, FSANZ would work with food manufacturers and retailers to ensure an immediate withdrawal and the name and batch.
Last week, the TGA ordered an urgent recall of 219 products which Pan Pharmaceuticals manufactures and supplies in Australia, with a potential for a larger recall within days.
