Obesity, one of the key issues of the 21st century, came under the spotlight at a recent seminar organised by Selectchemie, the Swiss agent of Danisco Sweeteners, at the beginning of the month.

As the number of obese people continues to grow, health experts are encouraging governments and food industries across the world to tackle the issue. Sugar replacements, already popular, offer one such pathway.

The conference gathered together members of the Swiss food industry, among them representatives from Nestle, Chocolat Frey, Wander, Hero, Hunziker and Chocolat Bernrain, to discuss issues concerning those who are overweight, concepts for raw materials and innovative solutions.

Dr. Schneider, a consultant at HealthEco, explained the problems concerning those overweight and Christof Kruger from Danisco Sweeteners Hamburg, gave a lecture on Sugar Substitutes for the Reduction of the Calorie Content and Glycaemic Load,. He took the opportunity to discuss the company's ingredient Litesse, a 1kcal/g speciality carbohydrate provided by Danisco Sweeteners.

Further information about the seminar can be obtained from Danisco Sweeteners.
