Nippon Milk Community, established last Wednesday to take over the milk businesses of troubled Snow Brand Milk Products Co. and two agricultural cooperative federations, started nationwide sales of milk products under the Megmilk label on Tuesday, reports Kyodo News.
Supermarket operator Daiei and other retailers are selling them in all prefectures except Okinawa. Nippon Milk, founded mainly by Snow Brand Milk, the National Federation of Agricultural Cooperative Associations and the National Federation of Dairy Cooperative Associations, has made products with a relatively short shelf-life of seven days in a bid to gain customer confidence.
As from Wednesday the Tokyo-based company will introduce yoghurt and other products. For fiscal 2003, Nippon Milk aims for sales of 245 billion yen, the report continues.
While the company will also sell milk products under the brands of Snow Brand and the Agricultural Cooperative System in Japan, or JA Group, it is expected to soon consolidate them into Megmilk, concludes the report.
