The Institute of Food Technologists opened the doors to its 2001 Annual Meeting in New Orleans on June 24. With approximately 20,000 visitors and over 1,000 exhibitors the event is even larger than last year. Company news from the show includes an announcement from Kerry Ingredients in the United States that it has reorganised its business into a decentralised, technology-based organisation comprised of four business units (SBU's) and additional businesses. The new SBU's are Kerry Coatings, Kerry Seasonings, Kerry Specialty Ingredients and Kerry Sweet Ingredients.Commenting on the new structure Mr. McIntyre, head of the new Kerry Ingredients in the US and Canada said, "Kerry recognises that to maintain its global leadership in its technologies, it needs to be organised in a way that breeds innovation". The two additional businesses included in the reorganisation are Kerry Foodservice Solutions Group and Kerry Ingredients Canada. Elsewhere, US ingredient sourcing company Ojai Organics announced the launch of an organic non-GMO lecithin. George Kalogridis, president of the company commented, "The availability of organic, non-GMO lecithin represents a breakthrough for organic and natural products manufacturers seeking quality emulsifying ingredients." Global vitamins player Roche Vitamins Inc. has formed an alliance with two other companies in the industry. Joining forces with flavour company Givaudan and packaging giant Tetra Pak, Roche claims the union aims to bring a total product development and marketing solution to manufacturers of fortified applications. The alliance will work together as a resource specifically for developers of fortified beverages aimed at the health minded consumer. Source: FoodNavigator.com editorial team
