The mad cow and hoof-and-mouth diseases affecting the beef trade worldwide added to the higher dollar and good harvests of corn and soybean in Brazil, created the perfect situation for Brazilian meatpacking companies to expand their chicken meat businesses abroad and their forecasts are far from humble, reports Gazeta Mercantil. Brazil's top meatpacker Sadia forecasts a 20 to 30 per cent increase in chicken meat exports this year, with revenue reaching US$ 520-600m. According to the Brazilian Chicken Exporters Association, this trend should continue, with exports generating revenue of US$1.2 bn, nearly 50 per cent over the amount turned over last year.
