A consortium of US food manufacturers and distributors has launched Maverick Xchange, a New York City-basede-marketplace aimed at serving the needs of the $390 billion foodservice supply chain. Consortium members include foodservice distributors Ben E. Keith Company, Quality Foods, and Dot Foods, the country's largest foodservice redistributor. Manufacturers involved in the exchange range from Anchor Foods and Campbell's to H.J. Heinz Company and Tampa Maid Foods. The consortium will provide an online foodservice mixture consisting of independents like supply chain specialist ecFood.com, foodservice equipment and supply (FES) e-marketplace fsXchange, and foodnet.com. Robert Sledd, chairman/CEO of Performance Food Group stressed that Maverick Xchange was not a speculative dot-com, but "an extremely practical, real-world service that is being actively shaped by its users for the purpose of solving their business problems and those of their trading partners."
