Food safety enforcement officials in the U.K. take on new responsibilities under revised codes of practice submitted to health ministers by the Food Standards Agency. Three of the 20 codes of practice for local authorities under the Food Safety Act 1990 are being revised after consultation earlier this year, while others are still under review. The changed codes are Code of Practice No.7, N0.9 and No. 19 that relate to Sampling, Food Hygiene Inspections and Qualifications respectively. New codes will be sent to all local authorities and will be available to food businesses on request. They will also be placed on the Agency's website at www.foodstandards.gov.uk
