Distillers threat to sue Romanian government

The Romanian government's decision to delay two ordinances that would introduce a state monopoly over alcohol distribution as well as grant tax breaks to alcohol producers has caused massive losses within the industry and alcohol makers are now threatening to sue the government, the Bucharest Business Week reports this week. Only a few weeks after being issued, the two Government ordinances will not come into effect until December 1. The Association of Alcohol Producers, Garant, said without the ordinances, distilleries are at a standstill as they have no legal framework to operate within. The association has now decided to sue the Government if this week's negotiations over applying the ordinances fail.
