Shaman Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announced recently that Dr. Thomas Carlson presented pre-clinical study results of the anti-diabetic and triglyceride-lowering effects of a medicinal plant species, SP-36300, at the International Society of Ethnobiology Congress in October. Dr. Carlson also presented pre-clinical results of SP-49400, a plant that effectively produces weight loss without a decrease in food consumption. SP-36300 is a natural plant extract that traditional healer of West Africa use to treat type 2 diabetes millitus, and in East Africa to treat heart disease. In experimental studies SP-36300 demonstrated statistically significant effects in lowering blood sugar and triglyceride levels. SP=49400 is a medicinal plant extract from West Africa. Research conducted in West Africa found that traditional healers use the stembark to treat a variety of disorders including obesity, fatigue and Type 2 diabetes mellitus. The medicinal plant extract is free of caffeine, ephedrine and related stimulants.
