China`s alcoholic drinks industry is becoming more profitable, Asia Pulse reports today. The wine industry generated 12.5% more profits in the first half of this year than in the same 1999 period. The country produced 2.22 million tons of alcohol in the first half of this year, 1% more than in the same 1999 period. A few large enterprises produced most of the products and name-brand spirits dominated the market. Low alcoholic content and nutritional products sold well. The output of beer surpassed 10 million tons in the first half of this year, increasing 7.6% over the same 1999 period. The output of grape wine reached 90,000 tons in the first half, increasing 13.1% over the same 1999 period.
