FiberAid™ - the premium prebiotic

FiberAid™ is a premium soluble fiber manufactured by the Swiss life sciences company Lonza. FiberAid™ offers superior benefits for gastrointestinal health combined with excellent digestive tolerance and technological properties. Composed of larch arabinogalactan, FiberAid™ is an all-natural, multifunctional prebiotic dietary fiber and has been approved as such by the US FDA and other authorities. It is extracted by Lonza from larch trees that grow in abundance in the United States via a patented process (US 5756098, EP 866808 and other patents).

Larch arabinogalactan consists of galactose and arabinose in a 6:1 ratio. It is a long, densely-branched non-starch polysaccharide with a galactan backbone with side-chains of galactose and arabinose.

FiberAid™ is classified as a prebiotic dietary fiber because it resists digestion by the enzymes of the saliva and small intestines and enters the large bowel intact, where it is fermented by bacteria to produce short chain fatty acids. These acids lower the colon pH that creating an environment favoring the growth of friendly bacteria, which has been noted to potentially reduce the risk of colon cancer.

What sets FiberAid™ apart from the other prebiotics is its broad range of functionalities and physiological effects. Fermentation of FiberAid™ proceeds slowly, decreasing the side effects of gas and bloating that some other prebiotics exhibit. It is stable at low pH and ambient temperature, it has low viscosity, with no impact on color, odor, taste and mouth feel when included in foods and beverages. Only 4.5 grams/day is needed for prebiotic effects while other fibers require a higher dose.
