Food technologists and Chinese officials link up on food safety

The International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST) and the Chinese Institute of Food Science and Technology (CIFST) recently announced the formation of the first IUFoST international expert panel on food safety.

With a 'global scope' the panel draws members from China, North America and Europe, with expertise that spans industry and R&D, government and academia.

"Helping guide China towards the best case practices with regards to standardisation, consumer health and maintaining proper regulation along all levels of the supply chain," was the main drive towards forming the panel, said the food technologists.

The first meeting between the panel and senior Chinese government officials will be later this month - from 25 to 26 June - in Beijing, China with "emerging and established issues" facing the Chinese food community up for discussion.
