Nutrition guides for sporty kids


Guides for meeting the nutritional needs of children aged 5 to 11 participating in a range sports have been released in Australia, an industry organisation reports this week. The A4 size booklets are designed for parents, coaches and managers of junior athletes participating in the top eleven sports played by Australian children. Funded by the Australian food canning industry, they have been written by sports dietitian, Ruth Logan BsC Grad Dip Nut Diet (SA), in consultation with other sports nutritionists with a particular interest in each of the sports. "The junior athlete plays better and for longer, stays mentally alert and recovers quicker from training and competition when well nourished", said Ruth. Each booklet offers practical advice and tips on how to help kids maintain every day good health and sports performance and ensure they drink and eat the right foods before, during and after their chosen sport.
