IFT in for a Treatt


Flavour ingredients company Treatt will unveil its new selection of natural vegetable distillates at the IFT exhibition opening this weekend in Chicago, USA.

Roasted pepper, watercress and celery are the latest savoury additions to the Treattarome range of FTNF (from the named food) specialty aqueous distillates.

The natural celery distillate is derived from celery seed, and has a strong celery odour and flavour with some walnut-like notes, claims Treatt. The distillate contains enhanced levels of phthalides compared with the standard celery seed oil, added the company.

Applications for the new products include vegetable blends and beverages plus soups, sauces and dressings. Distilled from fresh fruit and vegetables, the company asserts that the Treattarome products impart a 'high impact flavour without increasing acidity levels'.

The new products join Treatt's existing portfolio, which includes Tomato Treattarome 9722, Cucumber Treattarome 9721 and Green Bell Pepper Treattarome 9723.

In May this year, despite an increase in sales, Treatt described trading for the six months to 31 March 2003 as 'challenging' , with profit before tax falling by 24 per cent to £955,000 (€1.3m) compared to £1,255,000 in 2002.
