What is the world's biggest carbonated beverage company doing in a European Union satiety research project? Why, collaborating to battle obesity of course…

It’s not such an unusual fit explains Michele Kellerhals, PhD, the R&D director in Functional Ingredients at Coca-Cola Europe, when it is considered that 30% of Coke’s 140 European brands have, “zero or low-calorie variants”.

“So we see that 50% of our new launches in the future are going to be zero or low-calories and therefore we see satiety as one of the additional tools of the future to deliver weight management benefits to consumers.”

“We believe in collaboration,” Kellerhals said of Coke’s part in the 5-year, €6m EU SATIN satiety research project.
