24-Sep-2001

Sweden said on Wednesday that there was a possiblility that two ill dairy cows found on a farm were the country's first cases of mad cow disease.

Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), or mad cow disease, has yet to be found in Sweden. In a statement, the board of agriculture said that the farm had been sealed off, the cows slaughtered and their remains removed to the national veterinary institute for tests.
