NuCycle in cancer prevention

07-Jan-2004

US-based Integrated BioPharma and The Institute for Cancer Prevention (IFCP) are to jointly research and develop compounds with anti-carcinogenic activity produced by transgenic plants.

"These plants have been specifically designed and engineered to accumulate selenium and convert this element into cancer preventive forms," said E Gerald Kay, CEO of Integrated BioPharma.

Selenium compounds are produced using the proprietary, plant-based manufacturing process developed at BioPharma's biotech subsidiary, NuCycle Therapy.

The IFCP has previously studied the beneficial effects of soy, garlic, zinc, tea and low-fat diets in preventing cancer. Founded in 1969, its scientists were the first to establish the link between smoking and lung cancer.

Under the agreement, Integrated BioPharma has the exclusive rights to commercialize the compounds resulting from the research and development collaboration. The IFCP will receive a royalty for each compound commercialized by Integrated BioPharma as a result of the agreement.
