A heated panel debate over the reality of a consumer industry based on 100% sustainable palm oil broke out at the European Round Table on Sustainable Palm Oil held in London last week.

Shared responsibility for Certified Sustainable Palm Oil was the crux of the discussion, but suppliers, processors, retailers and environmental activists quickly debated the bigger issues preventing the sector moving forwards.

Meanwhile, Marks & Spencer's sustainable development manager Fiona Wheatley , who is also featured in this gallery, told FoodManufacture.co.uk that food businesses and consumers didn't understand the impact emerging economies could face if pressures to source 100% sustainable palm oil built too quickly.
