Global food ingredients group makes its stake

New ingredients supplier Braes used the FiE 2001 to formally introduce itself to the food ingredients world. Founded in 1999, Braes aims to achieve global sales of £200-£300 million over the next five years with the aim " to become the premier provider of natural functional food ingredients, delivered as user friendly flavour systems," the company said in a statement. Each operating unit in the group has it's own full service technical and applications teams. The R&D centre, originally called Lovesgrove Research was acquired by the group in August 2000. The combined turnover of the Braes Group is $75 million. The group's members are well known to the industry and include Swiss company Obipektin AG, and UK Britannia Natural Products Ltd. In November 2001 UK natural colours company Overseal Natural Ingredients joined the group. According to a statement the Braes group received substantial backing from 3i and is currently actively progressing the acquisition of a number of companies.
