Food companies support the American people

13-Sep-2001

The shocking events in the United States on Tuesday 11 September has led to many food retailers, distributors and food manufacturer's supporting disaster relief efforts for those effected by the terrorist attacks.

McDonalds, Albertson's, Inc., Pathmark Supermarkets, Fleming, Food Lion, Kroger, A&P, Kraft Foods Inc., Procter & Gamble and General Mills are among some of the many food companies offering their support.

In the wake of the devasting attacks on the American citizens other food companies have postponed events. H. J. Heinz Company postponed its Annual Shareholder Meeting, Ecolab Inc. cancelled its Investor Meeting, General Mills Inc. postponed the release of its first-quarter 2002 financial results, citing "the tragedy and disruption of today's national events" and giant coffee bar chain Starbucks Corp. on Tuesday closed almost all of its 3,700 North American coffee shops.

The cruel and evil act of terrorism that befell the United States this week has stunned the world. Many of us will learn of friends or colleagues touched by Tuesday's events. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families and friends and to all involved in the rescue mission.
