EHL Ingredients: allergen-free sales spike

By Rod Addy , 22-Jun-2012

Sales of allergen-free spices are soaring at UK ingredients firm EHL Ingredients.

The company has reported sales of segregated curry powder soaring by 35% and sales of allergen-free Italian seasoning up by 30% in the past year.

EHL Ingredients, which imports, blends and packs food ingredients from across the globe for the UK food industry, stocks 21 allergen-free herb and spice blends. These include mustard- and celery-free curry powder and sesame-free Italian seasoning.

“Many companies have now started producing allergen-free foods for both children and adults to enjoy and our allergen-free ingredients are ideally suited to a wide variety of dishes from around the world,” said EHL Ingredients sales director Tasneem Backhouse. “This has resulted in a significant increase in sales of our conventional and organic allergen-free spice blends and we are expecting sales to grow even further by the end of the year.”

To comply with EU food labelling regulations, Backhouse said EHL Ingredients closely monitors all its suppliers and requires them to declare the presence of 14 named allergen categories.
