New chair for novel foods and processes committee

The UK’s Food Standards Agency has appointed a new chair and a new member for its expert Advisory Committee on Novel Foods and Processes.

The UK food agency conducted a nationwide recruitment exercise before appointing Professor Peter Gregory, Chief Executive of the Scottish Crop Research Institute, as chair of the ACNFP.

The new expert member is Professor Peter Meyer, Professor of Plant Genetics, at the University of Leeds Centre for Plant Sciences.

The ACNFP advises the agency on all aspects of novel foods, including GMOs, and novel processes.

Gregory and Meyer both take up their appointments on 1 December 2009 .
