The allergenicity of GMOs has to be assessed before any new plants or microorganisms can be placed on the market, as new or existing proteins could cause allergies in humans or animals.
The panel received some 181 comments from 17 interested parties – individuals as well as organisations. Mostly these covered ways of implementing the general approach and ways of interpreting the results. More technical comments are tackled in the final opinions annexes.
